YOU LOVE WHAT?!

"Ya know that's why man I be telling you all the time man, you know LOVE,
That word love is a very serious thing, and if you don't watch out I tell ya
That (Love's gonna get you) because a lot of people out here say "i love my
Car" or "i love my chain" or or "i'm i'm just in love with that girl over
There" so far all the people out there that fall in love with material items
We gonna bump the beat a lil' something like this..."
"Love's Gonna Get'cha (Material Love)"

Did KRS-One and his BDP crew have it nailed? We throw out "I love" to express our affinity for everything -- clothes, cars, etc. -- so much so that the phrase practically means nothing. Can we blame the state of relationships today on our penchant for attaching an emotional act to material things? I'm thinking yes, because I still can't see how you can love me like you love your whip, I don't care how much I remind you of it (sorry, Kells).

So, what is love and how do you differentiate it from "strong like" or when you're really "feelin'" something or someone? I've heard all kinds of things: "love is honesty;" love is bad, but the hurt is good;" "love is humbling;" "love is God." All of these are neither right or wrong. Love, like life, is what you make it. But one simple observation is that love is a word. One of the Four Agreements states "Be impeccable with your word." Words carry power, we all know this. They change moods, change lives and change the course of history. Let's be careful, let's be particular about what we say we "love." Your love shouldn't be common or ordinary, so the intent behind your use of the word should be uncommon and extraordinary. Word.
